Shri Khambhat Tirth

Mulnayak: 23 cms. high, blue - colored idol of Bhagawan Sthambhan Parshvanath in the Padmasana posture.

Tirth: In the Kharvada Street of the city of Khambhat.  

Historicity: The ancient name of Khambhat was Trambavatinagar. According to Jain scriptures, this idol has a very old history. Between the times of the twentieth Tirthankara and of the twenty - fourth Tirthankara, many miraculous events happened here. Then this idol disappeared, it is mentioned that this idol was formally installed in the year 1111 of the Vikram era and later on it was again installed in the year 1165 and lastly it was reinstalled by the sangha in the year 1630. Its last renovation was accomplished in the year 1984 of the Vikram era under the auspices of His Holiness Acharyashri Nemisurisvarji. By the water used in bathing this idol, the body of Shri Abhaydersurishvarji was cured of diseases. This sacred place, therefore, has a glorious and ancient history. In the times of Kalikal sarvgnay Hemchandracharya, a large number of Jains lived here and many of them were multimillionaires. They built many temples. Udayan, the advisor of King Kumarpal, belonged to this place. Here many Acharyas formally installed many temples and wrote many scriptures. In times of famine, many rich merchants set up donation camp and bhojanashala here. This is the birth - place of the poet Risabhadasji. Here he wrote many books of songs. All this speaks highway of all omniscience and of this sacred place. The annual function is celebrated here on the third day of the bright half of the month of Fagan.

Other Temples: Besides this temple, there are many other temples. The Hemachandracharya Smrutimandir is also here.

Works of art and Sculpture: Artistic idols found from the hollow of the ground are there in the temple of Bhagawan Chintamani Parshvanath. Such artistic idols are rare. Relics are also found here and there. They present the ancient art.



Guidelines: The Khambhat railway station is at a distance of nearly two miles from the temple. There is a good road leading to the temple. Khambhat is at a distance of 80 kilometers from Vadodara. Buses and taxis are easily available vehicles. There is a dharmashala in Dantarvada at a short distance from the temple.
